Why is bridal perfume important and how you can find your perfect scent?

“What fragrance shall I wear on my wedding day?”. Possibly not your first thought when planning your wedding. However, it is an important one and something worth thinking about.

When we smell, a part of our brain called the olfactory, processes the scent and fires signals to other areas of the brain such as the amygdala. This little structure has a big job. It’s thought to be the centre of our emotions and can connect senses to memories. Have you ever been shopping and walked through a wall of aroma that reminds you of a time, place or person? It’s not just a strange coincidence. It’s science.

Using this science you can create the strongest memories of your wedding day, but how do you know which scent will help trigger your memories?

Your taste over their trends

It's important to consider yourself and what you like. Do you like very feminine floral scents, or maybe something more woody such as oud? There's no correct answer. Every single bride and groom are completely unique, which is why you should only buy what works for you and not what is 'trendy'. Most perfumers will craft a range of fragrances so you'll definitely be sure to find something you love. Take Jo Malone for example, each store is filled floor to ceiling with beautiful blends.

They make samples for a reason

Before splurging on a special perfume, you could ask for a sample to go away with and try. Perhaps even wear it on a date night to see how your partner likes it too. After wearing it once or twice, you'll be able to get a feel for whether the scent is for you. If it is, you can head back to the shop purchase the bigger bottle and keep it until your big day.

Remember when parting with the cash, every time you catch even the most delicate whiff of your chosen scent in the future, it'll take you right back to one of your favourite days.

Wanting something extra special?

Le Labo create the most beautiful perfumes and they even offer a personalisation service. You can customise your label with what the bottle is for such as, 'our wedding day' (see below image).

Jo Malone now offer an engraving service. You can choose to add your wedding date or initials to the bottle or the cap. This obviously isn't a wedding day essential, but it is a nice extra touch.
